Well, we all brush our teeth on a daily basis but there is a proper way of brushing your teeth and most of us, as per dentists miss out on important areas of the teeth while brushing. So which are the areas that people do not concentrate on while brushing? As per dental experts, most people concentrate on front side of the teeth because in the mirror only that part is visible. But, the inside of the teeth, the part that faces the tongue is also equally or rather even more important because the plaque tends to deposit on this part.

Pressure Application – As per dentists too much pressure or too little pressure, both ways is not a good idea. Too much pressure can damage your teeth while too little pressure can leave the plaque on the teeth. The pressure needs to be right enough for you to feel comfortable, remove the plaque and food particles from the mouth and not damage the bristles of the brush.

Cleaning Time – As per dentists you need to brush your teeth atleast for two minutes every day. You may divide these two minutes into 30 seconds slots, wherein 30 seconds you may use for top surface of the teeth, 30 seconds for bottom surface, and 30 seconds each for inside of the top and bottom surface.

Tooth Brush – Selecting a good toothbrush helps in keeping your teeth clean and healthy. Tooth brushes with hard bristles can cause damage to your teeth. Hence, while choosing a brush go for one with soft bristles. You may either go for a manual brush or an automatic one, but ensure that the bristles are soft.

Tooth Paste – A fluoride based toothpaste works well because it helps in preventing tooth decay.

Flossing – Flossing your teeth on a daily basis is very important as per dentists. It helps in avoiding the deposition of plaque on your teeth and even fighting bad breath issues.
Tongue Cleaning – Cleaning your tongue on a daily basis using a pointy brush or interdental cleaner helps keep the damage and bad breath causing bacteria at bay.

Well, brushing teeth is a daily routine that we all follow, but care needs to be taken to brush properly so that it works in your favor and not against your teeth or mouth. Do not ignore the vital parts around the teeth and try brushing twice a day if not thrice to maintain your oral health properly.

Mouth Bacteria and Gut Disease – The Trigger

Now, this is not something that is news, but a fact rather – The bacteria present in the mouth do contribute to various different health conditions like ulcerative colitis, chrohn’s disease and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) as well.

A research study carried out on mice got results that showed certain bacterias do commute down to the gut in the intestine and settle down there, causing chronic possible chronic inflammation. As per researchers, the study is at preliminary stage, but they sure see ray of hope wherein, there is every possibility in the future to treat diseases like gut and IBD by finding ways to target the bacteria residing in the gut.

Mouth Bacteria and Gut Disease

Though, there have been studies in the past around oral bacteria, which suggest that they are not able to reside in the gut of a person because, other bacteria’s out class them. But, these bacterias are found in the gut of people who have been suffering from colon cancer, IBD and more. For detailed examination the researchers also studied the saliva samples of patients suffering form IBD and Crohn’s disease. The sampled bacteria were then transplanted into mice that were bred to not produce the gut bacteria on their own. The results were as desired the bacteria known as Klebsiella pneumoniae were able to sustain in the intestines of these germ free mice by activating immune cells called T helper cells and also sparked an inflammatory response. But, these same bacteria failed to survive when they were injected into the gut of different type of mice with balanced level of gut bacteria. They could only sustain there if these mice were fed with certain antibiotics. The researchers also trying injecting the K pneumoniae to the mice that prone to colitis or inflammation of colon genetically. The mice did persist there and caused severe inflammation. They also studied fecal microbiome and discovered that human poop of crohn’s and IBD suffering patients has more amount of Klebsiella species as compared to healthy people.

The researchers hypothesis around gut bacteria is that in people with conditions like IBD or other gut conditions, the intestine inflammation creates an environment that favors mouth bacteria. After colonization in the gut these bacteria help in perpetuating chronic inflammation and gut microbiota dysbiosis. Therefore, according to them targeting these bacteria can help in providing strategy for treatment of various IBD and gut conditions in human kind as these bacteria could be termed as the good bacteria inside us.
