Overview
In the past two and half decades, Biotechnology has emerged as a most important branch of biological sciences. Biotechnology as a tool has immense practical value in the fields of human and veterinary medicine, in the development of new and safe drugs, disease diagnosis and cure; microbial fermentation technology, plant and animal biotechnology by genetic engineering and crop improvement etc. Biotechnology has a great potential in overcoming bottlenecks in these fields and eventually making our planet a safe place to line in. Not only affluent countries, even developing and underdeveloped countries have started exploiting the techniques in biotechnology to enhance the life style of mankind. Therefore, there is on urgent need of trained personnel in this field. Recognizing this fact many institutions all over India have started courses in Biotechnology leading to graduate and post-graduate degrees. Among several places in India, Bangalore has a reputation of having high standard degree and post graduate degree programs in Biotechnology, chiefly because there are good number of Biotech based industries here. Taking cognizance of these prevailing conditions M/S. Srinivasa Trust, under the able chairmanship of an eminent philanthropist, entrepreneur, educationist and parliamentarian Mr. Adikesavulu Naidu, envisioned starting a college solely for the purposes of imparting higher education and research in Biotechnology.
Thus , Vydehi institute of Biotech Sciences (VIBS) started functioning in 2003 with the aim of imparting quality education in Biotechnology and related fields. The Institute is affiliated to Bangalore University and recognized by Government of Karnataka. The institute has built up strong reputation in the past six years of its existence for providing excellent coaching and consequently students from all over the country prefer VIBS over other in city.
