A cochlear implant is a small artificial hearing device that is designed to produce hearing sensation by electrical stimulation of nerves inside the inner ear. The patient needs to know learning and relearning techniques. Hearing through a cochlear implant is very different from normal hearing or hearing through hearing aids. A cochlear implant facilitates the development of listening and speech skills, more so in the young to attend school with hearing peers. Cochlear Implantation is a life-changing event to many individuals with profound hearing loss.
