World Cancer Day Celebration

On the eve of world cancer day on February fourth, Vydehi Institute of oncology conducted a day’s academic and cultural program.

The chief guest for the day was Dr.T.S.Ganesan who is presently the chairman of the cancer center at Amrita Institute of Medical Science, Kochi. The day’s most auspicious event was the lighting of lamp by Kumari Vydehi which marked the beginning of the function. After Mrs. D.A.Kalpaja, the Director of VIMS gave a talk on management’s perspective, Dr Kantha, the Advisor, VIMS gave an exciting account of oncological career prospects. Dr.M.S.Ganesh,, Head of Oncology briefed the audience about the past present and future of Oncology centre. This was followed by a stirring dance by the three little cuties,who happen to be patients at the oncology center. Dr Geeta Narayan compered the patient testimonial program and this was followed by an interesting lecture by the chief guest Dr.T.S.Ganesan on research as a career for medical students.

The real action started in the afternoon with Dr Durga prasan and Dr Subramanyam hosting a thrilling quiz contest. Dr Bhaskar Viswanathan from the Oncology centre brought the entire floor down laughing with his histrionics. The next two hours saw mind boggling song and dance performances by nursing and medical students. The senior doctors also pitched in with their vocal talents. The event concluded with the announcement of prize winners for photography and painting competition which was held a day before.

Vydehi Medical College hospital set up a Gas Plasma Sterilizer costing Rs.50 Lakhs. Mrs. D.A. Kalpaja, Director, VIMS & RC had inaugurated the machine on 20-01-10 at VIMS & RC. According to director, this is the first medical college hospital in Karnataka to adopt the next generation Plasma Sterilizer ‘STERRAD’ from Johnson and Johnson.
