Now, males hormones are such that they only aid in worsening the symptoms and aiding its spread. Nubeqa or darolutamide is the new drug that is effective in controlling the cancer spread. It has the ability to increase the life expectancy rates by more than double.

As per the trial investigator and medical direction Neal Shore of Carolina Urologic Research Centre Prostate cancer particularly that’s spread across the other body parts is highly sensitive to the spread fast under the influence of male hormones like testosterone and testosterone metabolites.

Shore added the initial trials of the drug were a success as the tolerance was quite good events unique to ARIs that were observed in the earlier trials are not observed with darolutamide. Only that certain side effects like Nubeqa, rash and fatigue

He also added that the FDA approved the med only after it cleared the Phase III ARAMIS trial with positive results showing a rise in metastasis-free survival (MFS). Published in the New England Journal of Medicine earlier this year, had carried out the trial that involved 1509 participants who were provided with 600 mg of oral drug two times a day or a placebo alongside ADT. The randomized trial was multi-center, double blinded and placebo controlled on men with nmCRPC and under the treatment of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) with higher chances of turning out to be metastatic.

Robert LaCAze, executive member of pharmaceuticals division as well as strategic business head at Bayer stated that Nubeqa approval had opened gates to a new therapy that aids in extending MFS besides allowing physicians more flexibility in treating men having nmCRPC.

As per Matthew Smith, MD, PhD, director at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Centre in Boston for Genitourinary malignancies program, The approval of Nubeqa has opened the gates for a new option in prostate cancer treatment. He added that the objective of the treatment was to curb the spread of the cancer besides controlling therapy side effects as Patients usually do not exhibit any typical symptoms of MFS.

Tree Man Condition – A Rare Genetic Disorder That Urged A Man To Request Doctors To Amputate Hands.

Also Known as Tree man syndrome, epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) is a rare genetic disorder putting the patient to high risk of skin cancer. It is known as Tree Man because the when the condition occurs, the virus spreads around the body to create tree like growth. Our body has over 100 strains of HPV but if the human body has a genetic mutation that affects the ability to handle HPV negatively, it results in Tree man Disease.

epidermodysplasia verruciformis

Recently, the news about a man with epidermodysplasia verruciformis seeking help from doctors to amputate his affected hands went viral. He was undergoing extreme and unbearable pain and wasn’t able to afford better treatment. He was treated earlier but the condition returned bigger and faster. Now, inorder to seek treatment outside Bangladesh required enormous funds which he didn’t have. This is when the Prime minister of Bangladesh offered him free Treatment. Most of us till the video went viral, weren’t even aware of a condition like this one. The sad news is that it is a condition one needs to live with as it is for life. Even if treatment is provided by removal of the existing lesions, it returns again. Furthermore 50% of the people suffering from this condition can get skin cancer at the age of around 40-50 years.

As on day, there is not cure for the condition so immediate treatment becomes very important. The condition does involve a surgery called curettage. The term is derived from the device called curette used in the surgery. The device is spoon shaped and the lesion is scrapped off with the help of this device in-order to preserve the skin underneath. The EV warts are treated using traditional methods of treating warts like ointments, chemical treatments and cryotherapy.

The symptoms are generally visible around early years of 5 to 11. The symptoms include beginning on flat lesions on skin areas that are exposed to sunlight and even scab like lesions, papules, plaques or bumpy lesions. The lesions can occur across the body including hands, legs, armpits and more. The growth could be less limited to a small cluster of warts or aggravate to over 100 warts across the body too. The diagnosis is tricky as the doctor requires the medical history of the patient in order to understand the symptoms. The diagnosis involves physical examination of skin and biopsy procedure if the doctor suspects.

Living with Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis could affect the quality of life of a person suffering from the condition if it aggravates as it could get painful too. As a part of care with EV, limiting exposure to sun is very important as skin cancer risk is high. So, if you know someone in your relative or family with this disease, then it’s advisable that you visit your doctor for checkup.

Hip Replacement Surgery – An Overview

Hip Replacement Surgery is a procedure carried out to replace the painful hip joint due to arthritis or fracture and replace it with an artificial joint made out of plastic and metal. This is usually the last approach after all other treatments fail to provide any relief from hip joint pain.

The surgery was first carried out in 1960 and today is known to be one of the most common and successful surgeries to be carried out. The innovations in area have greatly improved the effectiveness of Surgery in today’s times and even is considered to be a minimally invasive surgery.

Hip Replacement Surgery

The surgery does involves some amount of blood loss so better consider a blood donation before doing the same. The surgery is not a prolonged one but it does require you to stay in the hospital for around less than a week. The surgery is done to remove the damaged bone as well as cartilage and replacing it with prosthetics. The procedure is as follows

The damaged femora head is first taken out from the hollow Femur center and is replaced with a new metal stem, either through cementing or by press fitting it into the bone.

This is followed by placing a ceramic or metal ball in the stem’s upper part. This ball is a replacement for the damaged femoral head.

Further the surgery involves the removal of the damaged cartilage socket surface or acetabulum is removed and a metal socket is used to replace the same using cement or screws if required.

For the surface to remain smooth or gliding, a spacer made from ceramic, plastic or metal is inserted between the socket and the new ball.

While you have to use a bed with a cushion to support your joints post the surgery and a tube in the bladder to help you with the bathroom calls, you need to take adequate rest and avoid doing few things. Even physiotherapy and exercise sessions will follow in order to aid the healing process.
