The World Cancer Day is celebrated every year on February 4th. World over many cancer organizations and other health care providers conduct events relevant to the occasion. To generate awareness and positive contribution from one and all a theme is created every year for the “World Cancer Day”.

“Together it is Possible” was the theme for this year.

True to this spirit, Vydehi Institute of Oncology, Whitefield, Bangalore has taken some long term forward looking initiatives. Women related scheme called – “WOMEN & V”, which aims to address and provide enterprising solutions to the common breast and gynecological conditions in women was launched by the Honorable Governor of Karnataka, Sri. H. R. Bharadwaj on this day at 10:30 am at Raj Bhavan, Bangalore

Later the Governor flagged off a Cancer Awareness Walkathon, with around 1,000 medical personnel participants from Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre and Mallya Hospital, Bangalore. The walkathon originated at Raj Bhavan around 10:45 am and culminated at Cubbon Park, Bangalore.

Dr. Lalit Kumar, Professor of Medical Oncology, AIIMS, New Delhi delivered a key note lecture on Ovarian Cancer Scenario in India – on this World Cancer Day at the Oncology Centre premises at 12:00 noon.

The centre also carried out a successful Free Cancer Screening Week for Bangalore and its neighboring citizens to mark the arrival of world cancer day

Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre in its ten years of existence has transformed itself to a super specialty hospital of truly global standards.

Addressing the media here today, Mrs. Kalpaja Dalavoi, Director of VIMS & RC said, “Hearing impairment is no more considered as a disability. The Programme is mentored by renowned Cochlear Implant surgeon Padmashree Prof. (Dr.) J. M. Hans, of New Delhi, is a pioneer for Minimum Surgical Intervention – Veria Technique of cochlear implant surgery in India. Adding to this Dr. G. Prabhakar, Prof. & HOD, Department of ENT, VIMS & RC said that the department has well equipped OT facilities to undertake cochlear implant surgery.

Our guest speaker for the occasion Prof. (Dr.) J. M. Hans said, that the process however does not end with surgery, auditory re-habilitation is essential for those who have undergone cochlear implant surgery. The success of cochlear implants depends solely on an efficient re-habilitation programme. This service will be imparted at Auditory Rehabilitation Centre at Vydehi Institute of Rehabilitation (VIR).

Cochlear implant is a small artificial hearing device which is designed to produce hearing sensation by electrical stimulation of nerves inside the inner ear. The patient needs to know learning and relearning techniques. Hearing through cochlear implant is very different from normal hearing or hearing through hearing aids. Cochlear implant facilitates development of listening and speech skills, more so in the young to attend school with hearing peers. Cochlear Implantation is a life changing event to many individuals with profound hearing loss.

Vydehi Institute of Rehabilitation – Rehab Day Celebration 2011

To commemorate 3rd December 2011 as the WORLD DISABILITY DAY 9th Annual Rehab day was celebrated at Vydehi Institute of Rehabilitation

This was a very special day for all of us here. The celebrations took course in the form of cultural programmes by children with special needs. Children with visual impairment from Pundit Puttaraj Gowai Trust for Disabled sang the invocation song. The programme began with offering of flowers to the deity by the eminent guests and dignitaries.
Graduation Ceremony was concluded for the little ones to mark their successful milestones in life.

It was encouraging to see that the children who attended VIR programme, have qualified to meet the standards for the so called mainstream schools or integrated setups. These kids were awarded for graduating to normal schools from VIR.

As we know that “Early Intervention Centre” is at the heart of VIR. Kids after completing 5 years of age at VIR have qualified to climb up the ladder to reach Vydehi School. The kids who moved from VIR to Vydehi School were also presented with awards.

Also, this was an opportunity to appreciate the hard work of parents in realizing potentials of their children. Parents were also awarded for their zeal to participate. They received awards for punctuality and attendance.

Commodore Indru Wadhwani, President, Mallya Hospital announced the opening of EARLY INTERVENTION CENTRE (VIR) at Mallya Hospital from January 2012.

Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences adopted children of VIR for their complete dental and oral care.

February 3, 2011 – His Excellency Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo, President of Guyana visits Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre

His Excellency Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo, President of Guyana along with Hon’able Dr. Bheri S. Ramsaran Minister in Ministry of Health, Government of Guyana, on their day long visit to Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre (VIMS & RC) on February 3, 2011. During his visit to the Institute Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo and Dr. Bheri Ramsaran, were shown around the Institute by the Director Mrs. D. A. Kalpaja and team of doctors, related to infrastructure, medical facilities, and administration and functioning within the Institute. Various issues were discussed by His Excellency Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo and Hon’ble Dr. Bheri Ramsaran with the Hon’ble Chairman Dr. D. K. Audikesavulu and the team of VIMS & RC.

During the discussions, we understand that there is a need to set up a super-specialty hospital in Guyana. In this connection, Vydehi Group of Institutions proposes to build and operate a super-specialty Hospital Infrastructure for a 250 bedded hospital along with paramedical training facilities. This super -specialty hospital will be supported by an emergency health care call centre.

The super-specialty hospital to be set up is proposed to be named as Rajeev Gandhi and Chetri Jagan Medical Institute & Research Centre.

His Excellency Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo, Hon’ble Dr. Bheri Ramasaran and the delegates from Government of Guyana were later treated with some exquisite cultural presentation by the students of VIMS & RC, followed by this Director of VIMS & RC Mrs. D . A. Kalpaja welcomed His Excellency Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo, Hon’ble Dr. Bheri Ramasaran and the delegates from Government of Guyana. Hon’ble Chairman Dr. D. K. Audikesavulu of VIMS & RC addressed the gathering and extended his services towards the Government of Guyana and its people. His Excellency Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo, spoke about the need for having the medical facility and the economic scenario. He reiterated the strong ties between the countries on various issues. This was followed by signing of Mou by Hon’ble Dr. Bheri Ramasaran, Minister in Ministry of Health, Guyana and Hon’ble Chairman Dr. D. K. Audikesavulu of VIMS & RC.

Vydehi Institute of Rehabilitation celebrated its 7th Rehab Day on 18th December 2010. A carnival had been organized for special children, their parents and rehab staff at Vydehi campus playground. A range of games, food items & craft items stalls was arranged for adults and kids alike. Everybody enjoyed the fair and it was a great success.

Commodore Indru Wadhwani – President of Mallya Hospital, Major Gen. Dr. Anju Manchanda – Administrator of Vydehi Hospital presided over the celebration and encouraged the special children.

She is a renowned Pediatric Physical Therapist from Los Angeles, California, USA.

She would be consulting our special kids & will give her valuable suggestions relating to thin need of tapping on orthotic supports.

She also would be delivering lectures on “Bio Mechanics” during her visits.
